I’m currently working on a post on the B vitamins that is going to be delayed until Wednesday to ensure its quality.
For now, here’s some of my recent personal notes.
Maca seems to increase feelings of confidence and sociability
As I wrote last week, I’ve been taking maca root. Some other things I didn’t notice until now that I needed to mention were increased feelings of confidence and sociability. Not “false courage” confidence mind you, but the kind that come from slightly elevated levels of willpower.
As for sociability, it’s been quite an improvement for me considering my energy levels can be affected by the smallest variables. Having low energy means I shut down or call it a night. With maca, I don’t feel that way as much if at all.
The significance of this personal discovery is that I’ve finally found something that increases my drive to be sociable. I don’t have any social anxiety per se (which can be corrected with theanine), but I lack the drive to be social.
ALCAR and choline can be stacked together to increase acetylcholine
the tl;dr of this link from Longecity explains the following:
- Racetams (like piracetam and presumably Noopept) decrease acetylcholine levels in rats. This is likely due to elevated use of the neurotransmitter.
- Exogenous (not made by the body) choline does not directly affect choline levels
- ALCAR is responsible for increasing thoroughput of acetylcholine
- ALCAR also increases incidence of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which is implicated in learning and forming new connections in the hippocampus
Perhaps combining the three – choline, ALCAR and a racetam – would make for a perfectly synergistic stack. I’m now in a trial period of combining the 3 to see what happens. Previously I was taking ALCAR on its own, not thinking that choline would be the missing piece of the puzzle.
I’ve read all over that it’s good to combine ALCAR with a simple and affordable form of choline, such as choline bitartrate. This combination is supposed to be highly synergistic and excellent for nootropic usage. But as I always stress, not all choline sources are created equal. Combining ALCAR with a highly bioavailable form of choline like Alpha-GPC could apparently trigger headaches, so be careful.
